District Council of Ceduna - Weather

Weather

The climate of Eyre Peninsula ranges from arid in the far west to cool and temperate in the south. The waters of the Southern Ocean and Spencer Gulf have a moderating effect on the climate of the coastal areas.

The average maximum temperatures range from 25 degC to 29 degC in the summer months near the coast to 34 degC inland. During winter the average maximum temperatures range from 15 to 18 degC.

Ceduna is blessed with a climate that is perfect for holiday-makers, having an annual rainfall of around 275mm and few summer days above 40 degC. However with a dry atmosphere to lessen the effect of the hotter days, usually followed by cooler evenings, even the hottest days are not unbearable.

Blue sunny skies are the norm for most of the year, and consequently winters are usually mild. You have to see the sunsets to believe them. Locals consider the weather in April to be ideal, with pleasantly warm temperatures and light winds.

In summer, the prevailing wind direction in the mornings is generally from the southeast, tending to move towards south by southwest in the afternoon. In winter the prevailing wind direction is north westerly in the mornings and northwest to southwest in the afternoons.

The warm balmy days of autumn offer superb weather for sport.

In a nutshell, the region enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate - a couple of degrees cooler than Adelaide in the summer, and a degree or two warmer in the winter.
