The Eyre Peninsula is a region which has so much on offer - superb wilderness coastline, world-class seafood, contrasting landscapes and unique experiences... and now we have another extraordinary experience, believed to be the first of its kind on offer in Australia - the Eyre Peninsula Seafood and Aquaculture Trail.
This truly unique visitor experience showcases seafood and aquaculture of the region on a self-drive trail stretching from Whyalla around the coast to Ceduna.
The seafood industry is a key economic factor for the Eyre Peninsula as it produces over 60% of the State's seafood. The economic forecast for the Eyre Peninsula aquaculture industry is that it is likely to double its capacity by the year 2010. In 2000/01, the aquaculture industry on Eyre Peninsula recorded sales of $428.5 million and employed directly and indirectly 1,944 people.
The trail allows people to undertake tours of a vast variety of commercial facilities, where participants will receive a working insight on how each business and industry operates from their tour guide.
The industries involved vary in size from multi million dollar operations to small family run businesses. There are twelve tours available, stretching from Whyalla to Ceduna along the pristine coastline of Eyre Peninsula.
Ceduna's contribution to the Seafood & Aquacultre Trail is Bill's Chicken & Seafood Shop, where you can watch your tour guide expertly fillet and process all manner of scale fish. Click here for more details.
Most tours are priced at $10 with group bookings available, the length of tours varies, however the majority are an hour or less. Bookings essential (Large groups by appointment). Contact the Ceduna Visitor Information Centre on 08 8625 2780 for more information and a brochure on the entire trail.
